12th Putnam County Amateur Championship Recap
This year’s Putnam County Amateur Championship was held the weekend of Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th . With over 80 players signed up throughout all divisions, the competition
proved to be fierce and eventful, with 2 Division Champions needing to be decided by a playoff.
The Men’s Open Division was won by Chris Ercker, who was the leader after Round 1 and was caught by Darren Horton, who shot a solid 2 under par 70 in the 2nd round to force the playoff. After both players birdied the 1st playoff hole, Ercker won the next playoff hole with a Par to claim the 12th Annual Men’s Open title.
The Men’s Mid-Amateur also needed extra holes to decide the Division Championship. Lance Larue and Chad Williams played 6 extra holes before Chad was able to claim the Division Title.
The Senior Men’s Division was won by Michael Walsh, who defeated last year’s Senior Champion, Joe Minello, by a single stroke.
Finally, the Super Senior Division title was captured by Rico Vigorita. After braving strong winds, rain and a strong field, Rico shot a fine round of 67 Net to record the victory.
